The 1948 – born from Zasavje region of Slovenia is one of those footballers who have made a huge contribution to making Olimpija what it is today – a giant. The footballer from Trbovlje spent most of his career in a green and white jersey. The exception is the period between 1976 and 1979, when he played for Angers in France. Overall, he played 432 matches for Olimpija; no one in the history of the club from Ljubljana has played more. He also scored 106 times, which places him in second place on the all-time list of Olimpija’s top scorers. Only Zoran Ubavic scored more goals. Vili Ameršek, an elegant attacking midfielder with exceptionally refined technique, spent 16 seasons in the Olimpija jersey, the most of anyone who has ever played for the Dragons. He was also the club captain and, in every way, one of the greatest footballers in the history of Olimpija.
