First Cup Challenge

The Dragons start their cup journey in round 2. of the Union Brewery Cup! Zoran Zeljković’s squad will play against second league team NK Brinje Grosuplje on Thursday, 2nd at 2 pm .

Ahead of the away match against the seventh-placed representative of 2. SNL, wing-back Justas Lasickas said: “We need to be better. We are not doing well at the moment, but we have to keep fighting. For us and for our fans. The Cup is a great opportunity to win and forget about the last bad result. That’s definitely an advantage of the busy schedule of the matches. Some of us are experiencing this for the first time in our careers, and on the one hand it’s a good thing, of course, because we’re gaining valuable experience.”

In this year’s edition of the cup competition, led by Goran Marković, Brinje won against Kisovec and Arne Tabor. Olimpija, who will also be away to Celje this week, will be the third cup opponent of the Grosuplje team in the current season: “We were better against Aluminij, but not solid enough. We had a few chances that went unused. We are happy to see a clean sheet. We are becoming more solid at the back. As a result, we want to improve in other areas. We want to progress. Every game is an opportunity for ourselves, so we simply cannot give up.”

Lasickas added: “We have a wide squad and everyone in the team is waiting for their chance. When you step on the pitch in an Olimpija jersey, you have to justify the coach’s trust. We are thinking in this direction. We are disappointed at the moment. The last results are not good, but we are looking forward to the next games because we are capable of showing much more,” concluded the Lithuanian international ahead of the match, which will be broadcast live on the official Slovenian FA YouTube channel.
