The Dragons U17 team celebrated their first place in the 1st SKL in an exceptional atmosphere. The decisive match with the second-placed team from Celje ended with a score of 2:2, and the green and whites confirmed their first cadet title in Olimpija since 1999 with the point won.

Around 1000 spectators watched the dramatic match in Jama. The Dragons led twice, first with Dušan Vukelić scoring his own goal, then Seadin Tafoski scored a great goal in the second half. The guests managed to come back twice. The tense finish did not bring about a turnaround, as Matevž Potočnik’s charges repelled all Celjan’s attacks and the well-deserved celebration with the fans could begin.

Strategist of the U17 team when they won the title: “Thank you all for your support! To parents, friends, Olimpija fans and the Green Dragons group! We simply could not have imagined something like this, but it happened and a big thank you! The boys enjoyed the match, they were aware of the importance of the match and, despite the incredible scenery, they remained focused until the end. We have had a demanding season, there were four teams in the fight for the championship, four very good teams. Many had already written us off, as we were in fourth place before the final part, but we managed to string together nine consecutive victories and thus overtook the leaders, which I am extremely proud of,” said Potočnik.

Olimpija ended the championship with 61 points, Celje has 60, Maribor 57 and Bravo 56. Before the cadet showdown, the two U15 teams drew 1:1. The Zmaj team’s last round awaits tomorrow, Monday, against Radomlje.
