Olimpija in Round 16 of Prva liga Telemach, won its fourth consecutive game and jumped to second place of 1. SNL! After Klaksvik, Mura also fell with a goal in the end of the match, and the author of the decisive strike was captain Timi Max Elšnik. Once again, the defence remained undefeated.
Zoran Zeljković said after his fifth win on the Olimpija bench: “Hard-earned, but I think well-deserved. We didn’t give up until the last minute and we were rewarded for it. The decisive goals in the dying moments show the character of a team that perseveres until the end. Always and everywhere. In every training session, in every match, we play from the first minute to the last. We want to finish every game the way it should be finished. I believe this will become our routine. So far, the boys are doing exactly what I want. We have enough energy. But we have to be realistic. We still have a lot of work to do, but I am optimistic because I see the effort and the desire.”
On the importance of the three points, the Green-White strategist says: “We congratulated our fans on their 35th birthday in the nicest possible way. They wanted a win and they got it. They mean a lot to everyone at the club. They probably would have liked to celebrate earlier, but that’s football. Mura also had a few chances. A bit too many for my taste and that should be a warning before the championship resumes, but this time we dictated the rhythm, were dangerous and deservedly won. I am very happy with the result. Some of the boys will now go to the national team, others will have few days off and we need to use this to get a good rest.”
Zeljković has been in Stožice for exactly one month. He has five wins in seven matches: ”There could be seven. It could be worse. We were also a bit lucky in some moments. It is important to be aware of this. We must not sleep, because we will play many more games in the future. When I arrived, I was aware that this is a period when we can move towards first place or away from it. I’m glad that the boys are accepting the pressure of playing in a big club. We all need to be able to deal with this,” said Olimpija’s head coach before the national team break.
The Dragons will be at work again on 22nd of November, when the cup match against Rudar from Velenje will take place. A few days later, a postponed game with Radomlje will take place in Domžale (25th of November, at 5:30 pm).
