Olimpija faces their first match of the 2nd qualifying round for the Conference League tomorrow at 8 PM, with the Dragons’ opponent being Andorran champions Inter Club d’Escaldes. Ahead of the new European challenge at Stožice, central defender Veljko Jelenković shared his thoughts.
About the opponent: “” We’ve analyzed the opponent thoroughly and as always, we’re going for the win. We expect a team that likes to play with the ball and not one that would just defend and threaten from counter-attacks. I see many similarities with Spanish teams – Inter has many Spaniards who are technically very skilled.“”
About his first weeks at Olimpija: “” I feel at home in the new environment. The guys welcomed me great, as did the coaches, management and everyone at the club. I’m satisfied with my performances, but as a team we know we can and must play even better. I believe our game will get better week by week, as the team is still gelling. I’m convinced we’ll soon be at a very high level.“”
About improvements after the last European match: “” We thoroughly analyzed the mistakes from the previous match and tried to fix them in training. Already against Mura we looked considerably better, but we want to take a step forward in tomorrow’s match. I believe we have more quality than Inter, both as individuals and as a team. Now it’s up to us to show that on the pitch.“”
