As president and owner of NK Olimpija Ljubljana, I bear responsibility for the club’s development and the decisions that shape its future. I am aware of our supporters’ expectations and my duty to lead Olimpija thoughtfully, with clear direction and a vision that extends beyond the next match.
After careful consideration, I have made the decision to end our collaboration with sporting director Necat Aygün. The decision is based on an assessment of the work and results to date, and the conclusion that our views on Olimpija’s future sporting development are not sufficiently aligned to continue working together. His appointment was my wish and decision, so I take and bear full responsibility for it. In running the club, we make numerous decisions. Some prove to be good, others less so. What matters is that we recognise this in time, take responsibility and act accordingly. Our responsibility does not end with the change of sporting director.
We recognise that developing a team requires time and patience. That is precisely why there must be clear agreement on how we want to build the squad and guide its development over multiple seasons. In our collaboration to date, we have not succeeded in establishing such a shared direction to the extent the club needs, which is why we have concluded that change is necessary.
We sincerely thank Necat for the work and effort he has invested in Olimpija. We respect his dedication to football and wish him every success going forward.
Our goal is an Olimpija that competes for trophies every season and regularly qualifies for European competitions. We must build such a team through considered personnel decisions that follow a clear vision of the football we want to play. At the same time, the development of young players must have its place in the club’s daily work, and the best from our football academy must have a clear pathway to the first team. Sporting management and the coach must work closely together in this. The task of those of us who lead the club is to ensure clearly defined responsibilities and the conditions in which plans can actually be realised. Players and coaching staff need a stable environment so they can fully focus on their work.
You, our supporters, rightly expect more, both from the team and from those of us who run the club. We understand the disappointment and the questions raised by events in recent months. We also recognise that every new personnel change increases the expectation that this time there will be more lasting progress. We will have to earn your trust again through our work and decisions whose impact will be visible on the pitch.
In the coming weeks, we will announce the name of the new sporting director.
Adam Delius, President of NK Olimpija Ljubljana
