NK Olimpija secured an important victory in the round of 16 of the Pivovarna Union Cup after an extremely combative and mature performance. The success against Celje significantly boosted the team’s morale, who showed their true face in front of the home fans. After the match, both the scorer of the new goal and the coach confirmed their satisfaction with the performance, highlighting the team’s progress.
Jan Gorenc – author of three goals in the Dragons’ last two matches: “Certainly a challenging task. We stood up well to the opponent and deservedly celebrated in the end. The plan was to attack them one-on-one. We went man-to-man and succeeded. I’m happy to have helped the team again with a goal. I think every teammate would like to be in this position. Scoring three goals in two consecutive matches is really nice. Thank you to the fans for their support!”
Federico Bessone – undefeated in the first two matches against Celje: “This is the Olimpija I want to see again and again. Especially after winning the ball back. We knew how good the visitors were at this. We suffered at the beginning, but I’m satisfied with the subsequent performance. We had opportunities to decide the match in our favor earlier. Regardless, we were timely and showed the difference in play. We didn’t change anything during the break. In some cases, you succeed earlier, sometimes not. In the second half, we wanted to be more decisive. It was the same in the eternal derby. That’s why this victory means a lot to us. When I came to Ljubljana, the team was in a difficult position and I wanted to change everyone’s mindset. The players are following me. We have two consecutive wins, which is not very common this season. The atmosphere in Maribor was excellent, as well as in Celje. Today it was even better. We always want to repay the fans with a victory, and I hope it will be the same on Sunday against Bravo.”
In March, the Dragons will face NK Brinje Grosuplje away in the quarter-finals of the Pivovarna Union Cup.
