  • Mišo Brečko New Head Coach

The Dragons are entering the new season with a new head coach. Mišo Brečko, a former Slovenian international and long-time Bundesliga player, is taking over the management of NK Olimpija Ljubljana’s senior team, having signed a one-year contract with an option to extend.

The Dragons’ new strategist boasts a rich playing career. He began his football journey at Rudar Trbovlje, then also played in NK Factor’s youth teams. He collected his first top-flight minutes wearing the NK Šmartno jersey, followed by a move to Germany, where he joined Hamburger SV. In between, he also gained experience on loan at Hansa Rostock and Erzgebirge Aue.

He left his biggest mark during fifteen years of playing in Germany at 1. FC Köln, where he made over 200 appearances across seven seasons. He then wore the 1. FC Nürnberg jersey for three years.

An important part of his career was also his international journey. In 2010, he was a member of the Slovenian national team at the World Cup in South Africa, and throughout his career he made 77 appearances for the senior Slovenian national team.

After ending his playing career, Brečko ventured into coaching. The 42-year-old from Trbovlje has successfully worked with youth national teams in recent seasons. As head coach of the under-17 national team, he led the squad to the European Championship in 2023, and also gained experience on the coaching staff of Slovenia’s under-21 national team. Before joining Olimpija, he spent two years as head coach of Slovenia’s youth national team.

Mišo Brečko will lead his first training session at Stožice on Monday, June 15. He will be assisted by former Dragons and Slovenian internationals Andraž Kirm and Luka Žinko, who will take on the roles of assistant coaches. Luka Pintarič will serve as analyst.

Mišo, welcome to the Dragons!
