Jugoslav Trenčovski, the new head coach of NK Olimpija, emphasized upon his arrival in Ljubljana that joining Slovenia’s biggest club represents a great honor and responsibility for him. He is convinced that the team possesses significant quality and potential, seeing the key to success in a positive environment, mutual trust, and the support of the fans.
First thoughts from the Dragons’ new head coach ahead of the upcoming home match against Aluminij (August 2 at 8:15 PM): “Olimpija is the biggest club in Slovenia, and I know its history well. I remember a match when I was 12 years old, when my Belasica from Strumica played against Olimpija in the 1988/89 season. Olimpija was the champion of the Yugoslav Second League at the time and won the match 2-0. This club has stayed in my memory since my youth.”
“Upon arrival, I realized that this is a truly large and professional organization. Working at such a club is a great honor and pleasure for me. I already know most of the players well. I worked in Radomlje last year, so I know about 80 percent of the team. I would particularly highlight Vidovšek, Urbančič, Kojić, Doffo, Mitrovski, and Marin. These are footballers with a lot of quality and potential. Our task is to create a positive environment and energy, as I believe this will bring us a successful season.”
“Certainly, everyone who earns it will play. We must provide young players with the right environment for development, instill confidence and courage in them so they dare to take risks. Mistakes are part of development, so we must give them another chance after they happen. Our goal is not to teach players how to play football. Our task is to teach them how to make the right decisions on the pitch. That is why I am optimistic. I see great potential in this team. I don’t have a magic wand; I just want a bit of sporting luck, and I am convinced that we will fight for the very top of the league table.”
“Now we are together. We must act as a family, and I want to be an important part of that family myself. I am aware that my colleagues and I are arriving during a challenging period, but we must remain positive. If we want to take a step forward, we must all believe in the same idea and create positive energy together.”
“Finally, I would like to address our fans. Let’s forget everything that is behind us. We need you now more than ever. Your support will be the wind in our sails. I know Olimpija well and I know it has one of the largest and best fan bases in Slovenia. If you trust us and stand by us, we will repay you on the pitch. I believe that in the end, we will celebrate success together.”
