New head coach Jugoslav Trenčovski recorded an important 1-0 victory in his first match on the Dragons’ bench. The deadlock was only broken in stoppage time, when the ball ended up in the net following a shot by Jošt Urbančič.
“First of all, I must congratulate my players, as they believed until the end that we could win, even though the match against Aluminij was not easy at all. If you ask me if I am satisfied, I am not. We didn’t play the way we wanted to. It’s clear that we are still at the beginning of our journey. We are not dangerous enough in our attacking play, we don’t look for depth, and there is still plenty of room for improvement. We need to establish a better structure, as we are currently too static. We aren’t moving into space enough and aren’t looking for the ball. I hope we will achieve true fluidity in our game in the future.”
“I would also like to thank the fans for their support until the very last minute. They gave us extra energy. In the end, we also scored with a bit of luck. I congratulate my colleague Jure Arsić on a well-assembled team and wish him luck in the next round, as based on what was shown, a draw might have been the fairest result.”
“The players are currently in a bit of a mental block, which is completely normal after such a start. Since I arrived, I’ve been trying to fix this, but a lack of mental sharpness is still visible on the pitch. We need to play faster, be more relaxed, and have more fun on the field. We are currently under pressure and aren’t enjoying the game enough, but I believe this victory will be a real boost moving forward. This team has huge potential and can fight for the very top.”
