The Olimpija team traveled to Albania today, where they will face KF Egnatia tomorrow in the return leg of the 3rd round of Conference League qualifications. After a morning charter flight from Ljubljana, the team arrived in Durrës, where the Dragons will have their base for the next few days. After lunch at the hotel, Jurgen Çelhaka spoke to the club’s website about returning to Albania: “It’s always a good feeling when you return to the homeland where you started playing football. I played in Tirana for 15 years and I have really fond memories of that period.”
On comparing the Albanian and Slovenian leagues: “The Slovenian league is of higher quality than the Albanian one, but the latter is also growing. Four years ago, when I was still playing here, the league was extremely competitive. It’s the same now: 4 teams are fighting for the title. Slovenian football is certainly of higher quality, but I think Albanian football is also progressing rapidly.”
What was missing in the first match to gain a score advantage: “In the first match, we were the better team, we controlled the game, had more possession of the ball, had more opportunities, and missed a penalty, which is part of football. To advance, we need to improve our play in the attacking third and be more efficient in front of the goal. I believe we will succeed in this and advance.”
What atmosphere can we expect at the stadium: “Although I haven’t played at the Egnatia Arena yet, I’ve heard that there’s an excellent atmosphere during big matches. The locals love their club and support it loudly from the stands. We are a team with European experience, so I’m confident that this won’t confuse us and we will play to the best of our abilities.”
This evening, the Dragons will have an official training session at the stadium. The match between Egnatia and Olimpija will be broadcast live tomorrow on Kanal A and Voyo from 8:50 PM onwards.
