Eternal Derby abandoned

The clash between Maribor and Olimpija was halted twice due to several incidents involving pyrotechnics, before being permanently abandoned in the 52nd minute.

The Dragons took the lead in the 12th minute when Antonio Marin scored to make it 0-1. The first suspension followed in the 36th minute, when referee Aleksandar Matković halted the match for approximately 20 minutes and sent both teams to the dressing rooms due to Maribor fans throwing and lighting pyrotechnics.

After the match resumed, the home fans’ unrest continued. In the 52nd minute, a pyrotechnic device exploded in the immediate vicinity of goalkeeper Matevž Vidovšek, prompting the referee to stop the game for a second time. As the throwing and lighting of pyrotechnics did not subside even after this break, the match was ultimately abandoned.

The case will now be reviewed by the disciplinary judge.
