The experienced midfielder made the biggest mark in his career in Italy, where he amassed nearly 300 appearances in the elite Serie A. The Bela Krajina native wore the jerseys of Palermo, Sassuolo, Atalanta, Torino, Parma, Fiorentina, and SPAL for a total of ten years. Before coming to Ljubljana, he also played in Greece (PAOK) and Romania (Univ. Craiova), and most recently played for Sudtirol in Serie B.

In addition to his exceptional club career, Kurtić can also boast 97 appearances for the Slovenian national team, placing him third on the all-time list. He was also a member of the golden generation that qualified for Euro 2024, where he played in the opening match against Denmark.

He has signed with Olimpija until the end of the 2025/26 season, with an option to extend for another year.
