NK Olimpija Ljubljana strongly condemns the events at the Eternal Derby, as such behavior by “fans” has no place in football stadiums and casts a shadow over Slovenian sport as a whole.
This raises the legitimate question of how it was possible to bring such a large quantity of pyrotechnics into the stadium, which resulted in injury to goalkeeper Matevž Vidovšek. Today’s medical examination fortunately showed that he suffered no lasting consequences, although he experienced pain in his head and ear after the match and throughout yesterday. We expect a thorough review of all security procedures and clear answers from the relevant authorities.
We extend a special thanks to our fans, the Green Dragons, who cheered loudly and fairly throughout the entire match, once again demonstrating how to support the club in a respectful and dignified manner—even when results on the pitch do not meet expectations.
The club will continue to advocate for a safe, sporting, and respectful environment in the stands for all match attendees. We believe that football must remain a place of passion, loyalty, and competitiveness, but always within the bounds of respect, safety, and sportsmanship.
We expect all stakeholders to contribute through their actions to ensuring that stadiums are places of positive support rather than incidents that endanger players, fans, and the reputation of Slovenian football.
