Thank you, captain!

Today, captain Marcel Ratnik, who left an indelible mark in Ljubljana, is leaving the green and white team. He will continue his career at Al Ain in exchange for a substantial compensation.

Marcel joined Olimpija as a cadet in 2018, immediately drew attention to himself and earned his first professional contract in 2021, which was just the beginning of his extremely successful story in the Dragons’ first team.

Rata won everything there was to win in the Olimpija jersey. He secured his first national championship title with his teammates in April 2023, and a month later he added the cup championship title to his collection after winning the final eternal derby. The following season, he played a key role in the club’s first qualification for European competitions and collected all the minutes in the conference league.

The next big turning point came when Marcel became the captain of Olimpija at the age of twenty. As the team leader, he led the Dragons undefeated to a new place in the conference league and the first European spring in the club’s history. At the end of the 2024/25 season, he and his teammates lifted the trophy for their eighth national championship title, thus ending his story at Olimpija in a very special way.

Marcel Ratnik made 148 appearances for the Dragons in all competitions, including 30 in European competitions, scoring 8 goals and adding 3 assists.

Marcel, good luck and thank you for everything – you will always be welcome in Stožice!
