As part of Round 25 of the PrvaLiga Telemach, Olimpija will host the third Eternal Derby of the season. On Sunday at 3:00 PM, the Dragons will face their eternal rivals for another three points and to keep their unbeaten run going, after winning the August derby at Stožice thanks to a superb goal by Jošt Urbančič, and drawing 1–1 away in the Styrian capital.
Dragons head coach Federico Bessone took time today to answer journalists’ questions, highlighted both teams’ strong league form, and spoke decisively about the kind of match he expects.
“Whoever wins the derby will be the national champion! Olimpija and Maribor have been the best teams in the league in the second part of the season, so we know the small details will be crucial to winning the three points. We’ll prepare well for their press and for how to find space in their defensive setup. They’re on a good run of results, so we have to be careful and stay focused throughout the entire match. In football, the result is what matters. The moment you relax a little, football punishes you.”
“The derby always brings a great atmosphere—something you’d want every weekend. The fans will give us an extra boost. I believe it will be a wonderful day for Olimpija. We’ve created a good atmosphere and the team is ready to respond to things like what happened on Wednesday. In football, you can’t always win. It’s true, we were knocked out by a second-division team, and we’re Olimpija, but now we need to focus on the derby.”
