Olimpija concluded the 10th round of the Prva Liga Telemach with an away match at Fazanerija against Mura, who remained unbeaten at home. The Dragons secured another victory primarily thanks to an excellently played first half, which they convincingly won 2-0. In the 23rd minute, Ivan Durdov capitalized on an excellent cross from Jošt Urbančič, beating the home goalkeeper with a beautiful header. Just two minutes later, Alex Blanco found Dino Kojić in the penalty area with an inventive pass, and Kojić doubled the Dragons’ lead with a routine shot. In the second half, the home team pressed forward, but Olimpija’s defense remained unbreached.
The Dragons’ new strategist Federico Bessone thus recorded his second victory in as many matches and told television: “The most important thing is the three points and a clean sheet. Of course, I would have liked us to play throughout the entire match like we did in the first half, but we knew how to suffer. We were looking for a response and reaction from the boys in a difficult situation – with the right approach, we succeeded.”
“A few weeks ago, such a match would have ended much worse for us in terms of results. I’m proud that we had the ability and psychological strength to withstand the opponent’s attacks without conceding a goal. No one has won at Fazanerija this year, but we managed to do it precisely for that reason.”
First goal scorer Ivan Durdov saw the match this way: “In the second half, we dropped slightly in energy, but when you win the match, that’s less important. We will certainly improve these issues with the new coach and the time we’ll have during the international break.”
“The new coach has lifted us primarily in a psychological sense. Despite being with us for only a short time, his ideas are already clearly visible on the pitch. Over time, we will further improve our appearance on the field, but we can already be satisfied with two consecutive victories. That’s what matters most in the end.”
