On Friday morning, Mišo Brečko faced the media for the first time and introduced himself as the Dragons’ new head coach. Ahead of Monday’s first meeting with the squad, he answered questions about his first impressions, expectations and goals in green and white.
“I’m happy to be here, but at the same time I’m aware of the responsibility that comes with leading a club with the tradition Olimpija has. Just like in life, in sport you can see problems too, but here I mainly see opportunities. We know how much power Olimpija has, and you don’t turn down a club like that. For me there was no dilemma, because I believe in the potential this environment has.”
“Olimpija has to be successful. That’s the basic goal. We want to play attacking, attractive football, but the result has to come first. It’s still too early to talk about a playing model, because I first need to get to know the team well. But I do want our side to be competitive, compact and to look serious on the pitch.”
“We’re already in intensive talks with some players, although it’s not easy to bring in every Slovenian we want. We’ll fight for those we believe have the quality for Olimpija. There’s a huge amount of potential in the squad. Olimpija may be a sleeping giant, but we must not forget that in the last four years they’ve been national champions twice. I know the young players well and some academy players will get a chance already in training. If they earn it, they’ll get their chance on the pitch too.”
