Timi Max Elšnik summed up his thoughts after the historic draw for the Dragons. Olimpija will host Lille, Slovan Bratislava and Klaksvik in Group A, and the captain says he believes in something more.
Elšnik: “Olimpija will be playing in European competitions for the first time and we will do everything we can to present ourselves in the best possible light. We are in a group where we have to respect our opponents but at the same time dare to attack a bit more. France, coming from one of the best European leagues, is the absolute favourite. Against them, I expect the biggest difference to be in the physics itself, because that is what their league is known for. They have some world-class individuals. Slovan from Bratislava is well known to us. We played a game a few months ago during the summer preparation period and we already know roughly what we are going to face and what we are capable of against them. Klaksvik from the Faroe Islands may be far behind other European countries in terms of the strength of their league and national team, but their players have more than proved in the qualifiers for European competitions that they can cause problems and beat teams from very high quality leagues. They will need to be taken as seriously as possible and not be seen as an ‘outsider’. The fact is that we will have to be 100% every game if we want to get a positive result. Personally, I believe in the team and in scoring points successfully. After six games, the line will be drawn and then we will see if it will be enough to qualify for the spring knockout rounds.”
