Olimpija’s own Mateo Aćimović is transferring to Spanish second-division club Las Palmas for a transfer fee. Mateo, who first donned the green-and-white jersey at the age of five and later played for all the club’s youth categories, made his senior team debut at the tender age of 16, thus becoming one of the youngest debutants in the history of NK Olimpija.
He made 14 appearances for the Dragons’ first team and scored one goal, which he contributed in a cup match against Beltinci in the 2024/25 season. In the youth categories, he recorded 106 appearances and scored 41 goals as a midfielder.
Upon leaving his home club, he said: “After 13 years, the time has come for me to say goodbye to the club that was my second home. At the age of five, I first put on the Olimpija jersey, and from then on, this club became a big part of my life. I grew up here, spent many beautiful moments, learned from difficult periods, and met people I will never forget.”
“As a small child, my dream was to play for Olimpija’s first team, and I am proud that this dream came true. Wearing this crest was a great honor. Thank you to all the coaches, teammates, club staff, and fans who stood by me throughout these years and were part of my journey. Now a new chapter and a new challenge lie ahead, and Olimpija will always have a special place in my heart.”
Olimpija Director Igor Barišić: “Mateo’s transfer abroad is the result of a mutual agreement between the club and the player. His desire to take the next step in his career, test himself in a new environment, and gain experience on the international stage prevailed. At NK Olimpija Ljubljana, we supported his ambition and enabled the transfer to be realized. During his time playing for Olimpija, Mateo left a positive mark with his attitude, work, and dedication, so we are happy that he will continue his path in an environment that offers him a new opportunity for progress.”
“On this occasion, we sincerely thank chief scout Branko Milovanović and the management of Las Palmas for their fair, professional, and constructive cooperation. We are convinced that we have laid a good foundation for future cooperation between the clubs. We wish Mateo much success, health, and happiness on his further journey. We will follow his development with great interest, and Olimpija’s doors will always remain open to him.”
Ači, thank you for everything and good luck on your new path!
