Zoran Zeljković: ”We have been patient”

The Dragons have their first European victory in the Conference League group stage! In the fourth match of Group A, Klaksvik deservedly went down 2-0 at home in Stožice!

After the much-anticipated joy on the international stage, a delighted Zoran Zeljković said: “I could say that a stone has been rolled away from my heart. Congratulations to the players for the win. They deserve it the most. We played a good game. We were in control, coming into chances. But we played against an opponent you have to beat. With all due respect. We also had a player more in the second half. So we are staying firm on the ground. We will enjoy today and tomorrow we will already be thinking about Mura.”

Olimpija finished the game with 25 shots on goal. The goals came very late, despite the dominance, and were scored by substitutes Sualehe and Nukić: “We have been patient. We waited wisely for our chances, we took one at the end and it got easier. Soon the second goal fell. The players from the bench added the energy we wanted. I missed David Sualehe on the pitch quite a bit. Now he is fully back. It is difficult to get so many chances because the opponent defended well, but we managed to do it and we crowned the superiority with two goals. In Europe you can be punished quickly, but this time we were determined enough. Klaksvik didn’t get a single shot on target. The spectators also recognised the boys’ contribution. They turned out for the real thing and I thank everyone for their vocal support.”

After consecutive victories over NK Brinje, NK Celje and KI Klaksvik, the green-and-whites will host the Mura on Sunday: “I hope with all my heart that we will have the same opening in front of the away goal in the domestic championship. We have had a few situations in the past matches where we could have scored more. We have a lot of work ahead of us and we have to keep going. The future is definitely bright! The first European win is of course special, but we know that we all have to move forward together. Only work brings results, so that’s what we will focus on.” said Zeljković.
