Zoran Ubavić
The son of a military officer took his first football steps in Celje, where he was born, but moved to Ljubljana at a very young age. There, he initially played for Slovan before joining Olimpija, where he quickly proved himself as one of the most talented young Slovenian footballers.
He made his senior team debut during the era of former Yugoslavia, even playing in the top-tier Yugoslav league. After Slovenia’s independence, he quickly became one of the most prolific attackers in the country. A true king of the penalty area, he was a nightmare for defenders and goalkeepers. In the 1. SNL, he played 149 matches and scored an impressive 82 goals, including 29 in the inaugural season of independent Slovenia’s championship. That year, he was the league’s top scorer, and to this day, no player has surpassed his single-season goal record.
Overall, his statistics in the Olimpija jersey are 283 appearances and 167 goals. He is the Dragons’ all-time top scorer, and he also helped the club return from the fifth division back to the first division. Zoran Ubavić passed away in 2015 at the age of 51.
